I jumped at the chance to contribute to The Fusion Workshop taught by Dana Fernandez and Jenna McElroy. Not only is it a dream to get one film photographer to shoot one of my cakes, but to have an entire workshop snapping away and capturing my work is just over the top amazing. The shoot was styled by Ashley Joseph of Two Be Wed and I think she totally knocked it out of the park.
I was a little nervous about free-handing the painted flowers so I made sure to do my research. I definitely spent some time next to my 6 year old artist borrowing her paints and asking for advice :)
I studied the flowers being used in the shoot and wanted to put a very fanciful spin on them. The watercolor effect kept things light and whimsical while the dark green crisp leaves and white space offered just the right amount of modern style they were looking for. There was a mid-century lamp shade that actually served as inspiration for the cake proportions and I just love how it turned out!
